PARKOUR

What is Parkour?

Parkour is movement, art and a method of training, with which we prepare our bodies and mentality for safe and efficient movement through any enviroment (urban or natural), using different movement patterns, such as jumping, running, climbing, swinging, balancing, crawling, rolling, walking on all fours..

With the practice of parkour we develop certain qualities, such as resistance, adaptability, exploring, relying on ourself, health, creativity, will…

Parkour focuses on technique, speed and efficiency.

Freerunning is parkour with flips, turns, gymnastic, dance or martial arts moves.

Combination of those moves can bring more joy, greater creativity and more complexity.

Most practicians don’t deal with names, but explore and practice both. That’s why we label both arts as Parkour.

Because parkour was recognised by the media for its risky jumps and flips from roof to roof, many people got the wrong impression of what parkour really is.

It is most important to point out that parkour is not about mindless jumps and risks. Parkour is practiced with a sense of self, respect, and discipline. To stand and last, so we can move on well throughout our lives. We also have to respect the environment and other people, so our training can be done uninterrupted. Irresponsible acts of an idividual or a group can have negative consequences for everyone.

Finally, it focuses attention to the original philosophy of ethics, which helped to form parkour in the early developmental period. Even if you have a different views of training, you can still learn a lot from traditional parkour sayings such as: être et durer, être fort pour être utile (be strong to be useful), never ending improvement of yourself and developing the warrior spirit.
